The finished Holly and Ivy illustration
( The Holly and The Ivy by Rebecca Chamberlain)
Blog Update: At long last, it is finished! And just in time to have a few printed for friends and family...I guess this one is a good example of what Botancial artist Mindy Lighthipe calls "Frankensteining"-borrowing from different resources as well as life studies. The image is inspired from a royalty-free stock photo( for placement, positioning, and some of the holly leaves and berries), my former neighbor's beautiful holly tree, and ivy from my own garden...) All and all, I am pretty pleased. I see things of course that I would change a bit in hindsight but that's part of the learning process, right? This was a challenging yet fun one to do...Hope you enjoy the final result and let me wish each of you a very Merry Christmas!
( nearly completed)
I would say that The Holly and The Ivy illustration is about 95% finished...One more good day of work and it should be ready...I must define the leaves more and add some more stem-work to the ivy, though...I'm so close...

Rebecca, this really is looking fabulous. I love the detail of the ivy and the different shades of green really make those juicy red berries 'pop' out from the page. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks fantastic! I love all of the details and the shading/light is really great. Like the previous comment - the berries really 'pop'.
